Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (CCC 1285)
At JDW, the Confirmation class is for those beginning 9th grade. A candidate may enroll in the Confirmation class provided he or she has completed faith formation instructions either at JDW or another parish, if transferred; or enrolled in a Catholic School. Confirmation classes include instructions, prayer and retreats; as well as participation in Youth Ministry events and activities. Primarily, the candidate’s regular use of the sacraments, especially the active participation in the Sunday Eucharist is a necessary element in determining a candidate’s desire and readiness for the sacrament of Confirmation in the Catholic Church.
